Catskill Puppet Company
The Catskill Puppet Company mounts two original shows: the matinee features The Willow Girl, a story about the magical powers of a Willow tree. The evening show, Lions Whiskers, is a delightful musical adaptation of a traditional Ethiopian folktale. These stories with their important and wise "life messages" unfold before your eyes with beautifully crafted puppets, music, and pageantry. The performance will start with a well-known children's musical group.

Sponsored by the West Orange Department of Recreation.

The Lion's Whiskers -  A delightful musical adaptation of a traditional Ethiopian folk tale, this show features a charming cast of human characters as well as our favorite African animals! When lonely Yeshimebet marries a widowed man with a son, she goes to a Wise Man for advice. He tells her that in order to win the heart of the little boy she must first pluck three whiskers from a Wild Lion! In doing so she not only finds the courage to tame the lion, but also the secret to gaining the love of her new family.
Catskill Puppet Company The Willow Girl - When a young Chinese girl immigrates to the American frontier, she finds herself facing discrimination in a swirl of other immigrants and cultures. But she possesses special gifts. She has been taught the healing power of plants and has a secret friend…the mysterious spirit who inhabits a beautiful Willow Tree! When the Willow Girl meets two Irish brothers, one generous and good, the other selfish and unkind, they all discover that the magic of The Willow works two ways. This puppet show is a wonderful blend of humor, mystery, drama and magical effects. It is illustrated with original and traditional fiddle music.
